Æthelred the Unready, who is probably the funniest named historical figure ever, was quite famous for not being ready for the Vikings. You see, the Vikings had been raiding the English countryside for hundreds of years, but then due to internal conflict, they sort of stopped for a while, so you got English Kings with names like "Edgar the Peaceful". So our boy Æthelred was like "well good enough, I guess they are gone forever, problem solved". But you won't guess who came back...
